Vision and Purpose

Our Vision

To see the Church in Africa united in biblical truth, firmly rooted in orthodox Christianity, and equipped to faithfully proclaim the gospel across the diverse contexts of the African continent.

Our Purpose

The Africa Confession of Faith serves five essential purposes for the Church:

1. Instruction

To instruct believers in what Scripture says we are to believe concerning God, humanity, sin, salvation, and how we are to live a life pleasing to God. This confession provides a comprehensive, systematic presentation of biblical doctrine tailored to the African context.

2. Assurance

To give believers deep assurance of their faith and confidence in God. By clearly articulating what we believe and why we believe it, this confession strengthens the faith of believers and helps them stand firm in their convictions.

3. Defence

To stand as a defence against false gospels, false teachers, false prophets, and false churches. In a continent that has been ravaged by theological error and prosperity teaching, this confession provides believers with a biblical standard by which to evaluate teaching and practice.

4. Hope

To give believers and the church hope that in the end, Christ wins. By grounding our faith in the unchanging promises of God's Word, we are reminded that our hope is secure in Christ regardless of the challenges we face.

5. Unity

To enhance unity in the local church and between churches. By providing a clear summary of biblical Christianity, this confession allows believers to agree on essential doctrines while maintaining the freedom to differ on secondary matters.

Who Is This For?

The Africa Confession of Faith is designed for:

  • Individual believers seeking to grow in their understanding of biblical doctrine
  • Church leaders looking for a comprehensive teaching tool for discipleship
  • Seminaries and theological institutions training future pastors and leaders
  • Churches seeking to establish or clarify their doctrinal foundations
  • Denominations and networks desiring unity around essential biblical truths
  • Missionaries and church planters working across diverse African contexts

Our Commitment

We are committed to maintaining the Africa Confession of Faith as a living document that serves the Church while remaining anchored in the unchanging truth of Scripture. We welcome thoughtful engagement, constructive critique, and ongoing refinement as the confession is used across the diverse contexts of the African continent.
