Historical & Theological Background

Scripture clearly affirms the reality of an unseen spiritual realm populated by angels (holy) and demons (fallen). This is not superstition or mythology but biblical revelation. The spiritual world is real, active, and engaged in cosmic conflict. However, Christians need not live in fear—Christ has conquered all spiritual powers.

African Contextual Commentary

Many African Christians live in fear of the spiritual realm—witchcraft, curses, evil spirits. Others, influenced by Western naturalism, dismiss the spiritual world as primitive superstition. This statement affirms biblical truth: the spiritual realm is real. There are indeed spiritual powers and authorities. African believers should not adopt Western skepticism that denies spiritual realities. However, we must also reject animistic fears and practices. The spiritual world exists, but Christ is Lord over all.
